Witness: Kama Ross

The District Forester for Benzie, Grand Traverse and Leelanau Counties, Kama Ross provides information services and support to forest and woodlot owners across the region. Recently, we asked Kama what she thinks our forests will look like in the coming years.

Kama describes some of the impacts of invasive insect pests and related diseases on the regional forests. She is concerned that we are seeing a reduction in forest diversity.

  1. I have many ash trees on my twelve acres that are healthy. In fact, I haven’t lost any to the emerald ash borer. Do you have an explanation for this. I see dead ash east and west of me, but in my small piece of Leelanau County, They are doing fine.
